Mouser Electronics has begun stocking the Allegro MicroSystems AHV85003 and AHV85043 isolated silicon carbide (SiC) gate driver chipset. The components, now available, are designed to simplify power electronics by integrating signal and power transmission.

Why it matters

The chipset reduces power conversion design complexity and bill-of-materials costs by removing the need for bootstrap circuits or auxiliary bias supplies. This consolidation addresses common bottlenecks in building high-efficiency power systems.

The chipset features a 6 A output for both gate pull-up and pull-down pins and operates across a temperature range of -40°C to 125°C. It is AEC-Q100 Grade 1 qualified for automotive reliability standards.

The players

Mouser Electronics

A global distributor of semiconductors and electronic components serving 650,000 customers with 6.8 million products.

Allegro MicroSystems

A designer and manufacturer of power and sensing semiconductor solutions including gate drivers and motor control ICs.

The details

The AHV85003 and AHV85043 chipset uses a Power-Thru design that transmits both pulse-width modulation (PWM) signals—the method of controlling the duration of power pulses—and bias power through external transformers. By using these transformers to provide a self-powered isolated gate drive, the system eliminates the need for separate bootstrap circuits or auxiliary power supplies. Additionally, the chipset provides a bipolar output with an adjustable negative rail and includes integrated primary and secondary overtemperature protection.

The Tech Race

The Allegro chipset competes in a market focused on increasing power density through higher levels of integration. By adopting the AEC-Q100 Grade 1 standard, it aligns with current efforts to streamline components in electrified power conversion.

Engineers can currently source the chipset and order evaluation kits directly from the distributor's inventory. The design integration changes how power designers approach system architecture by removing the requirement for auxiliary bias supply components.

The takeaway

The Allegro chipset offers a path to lower system complexity by integrating power and signal transmission into a single drive solution. Interested designers can monitor the effectiveness of this Power-Thru approach in high-temperature applications against traditional discrete component benchmarks.
