OVD Kinegram has released updates for its Mobile Chip SDK, allowing organizations to restrict the volume of data retrieved from NFC identity document chips. This update is now available to new and existing customers.
Why it matters
By enabling organizations to select specific data group profiles, this tool supports data minimization principles required for GDPR compliance. Limiting access to only necessary identity fields reduces the scope of personal information handled in verification workflows.
The updated SDK provides 4 predefined data profiles ranging from the .minimal set for biographic data to the .all profile covering data groups 1 through 16. These configurations allow for more precise control than previous iterations, which previously saw a 3 to 4 times improvement in processing speed.
The players

A developer of identity verification software, hardware components, and mobile SDKs focused on secure document authentication.
The details
The system utilizes the smartphone as a thin client to interface with the NFC (near-field communication — short-range wireless connectivity) chip inside identity documents. During the process, the SDK reads the Security Object Document to authenticate the data before the DocVal Service performs final verification within the customer's secure server environment. This architecture ensures that only the required fields are processed by the client, minimizing the exposure of sensitive personal information.

The Tech Race
This release aligns with the industry-wide shift toward granular control in identity verification, following strict data minimization standards set by the General Data Protection Regulation. It directly competes with other digital identity providers looking to reduce the liability associated with handling broad document data sets.
Organizations deploying identity verification can immediately implement these profiles to restrict data collection based on their specific workflow needs. The update is currently available for integration into managed device ecosystems and server-side verification environments.
The takeaway
This update demonstrates a growing technical preference for modular data access in identity verification. Watch for future performance benchmarks as organizations shift from bulk data collection to these defined profile standards.
